Contemporary British composer Sir Peter Maxwell Davies is known for his multifaceted compositional style.  While some of his works fall into the experimental music category, others integrate various styles of music exhibited by previous composers, and still others reflect the Scottish folk music of the Orkney Islands where Davies lives.  This piece, A Birthday Card for Prince Charles, fits into the latter category. 

"'A Birthday Card for Prince Charles' was written for the Sanday Fiddle Club, in celebration of the sixtieth birthday of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales...The Sanday Fidle Club is a mixed-level group for the community.  This work is therefore intended to be enjoyed by all string players!"
