Violin Playtime series works well
I have enjoyed using the "Violin Playtime" books with my students. The first book is carefully graded so that new concepts and notes are added gradually. The songs and accompaniments have a fresh sound. Book 1 starts out with open string songs, and gradually adds fingers. The first part of the book deals with "high" 2nd finger (F#, C#) and the second part of the book uses "low" 2nd finger (F- and C-natural.) This book works very well with absolute beginners, children through adult.
