Ratings & Reviews
very nice tuner
This is the only tuner I've found that clamps properly to a violin. Works well in noisy environments.
Buy one.
"Reasons: 1. It is so small and portable that you can leave it on while playing and while in the case. 2. The design is simple and intuitive: the elementary schoolers at a leave replacement I did understood how it worked immediately. 3. It automatically shuts off after 10 minutes...so thanks to whoever came up with that for saving us all batteries! 4. Clear display is easy to read. 5. Rubber has done its job and my instrument is scratch-free. 6. And...best of all, I tested it in a noisy classroom lesson and yes, the pickups are vibration only, so the ambient playing did not throw off the tuner. So yeah, it wins. My favorite tuner to date."
New Favorite Tuner
I have been using this tuner every day for three months and was shocked by how easy it is to use and read. I tune in loud places and travel often and can't imagine my job without this tuner now. Thanks, D'Addario, for making a tiny tuner which feels so safe to use on fine instruments!
Great!
I've been using this tuner for a few months now and it is great. Very easy to see and simple to use. Clips on easily and stays on as long as you need it to.
Does not fit Viola
This tuner works fine for a violin but will not open wide enough to fit on the thicker body of a Viola. I give it 5 stars for violin but 1 star for Viola.
Not very accurate...
Not very accurate and yet hardly worth packaging up to return. By accurate I mean hard to read the result on the tiny screen. Not so user-friendly as my Korg electronic tuner, and difficult to clip on.
very nice tuner
This is the only tuner I've found that clamps properly to a violin. Works well in noisy environments.
Inexpensive, but . . .
I knew this was an inexpensive tuner but I didn't expect it to be quite so cheap looking and functioning. It does clamp on well, but I found it very difficult to see and use.
Doctor
I've had one of these on each of my fiddles from the time I was aware they were on the market, and I have just ordered another one for another fiddle. They work fine.
Didn't stand up to my middle schoolers
It's a nice little tuner but I have a big program, so it was probably being used about a dozen times a day (along with a bunch of other tuners I bought to see what one(s) would stand up to middle school abuse the best). My kids were able to break it in a mere few weeks. A part came off that adjusts the height so without it the tuner is worthless. Honestly, it was also just a little too small, easy to get lost. I also didn't like that it really wouldn't fit 15 inch violas and up. It's misleading that it says it fits most violas. Would work best for a single individual keeping it in his/her violin case.
Not for Viola
Works great on violin but will not fit on a viola, the attachment will not open wide enough to fit a viola.
A great little tuner!
No more clamping on a bulky Snark to tune, which is what I had been doing. I didn't know they made these little clamp-on tuners for violin! It works great, is accurate and easy to use, and I haven't had it off the fiddle since I bought it. The tuner is actually smaller than it seems in the pictures; I was concerned that it would be too large, but it is totally unobtrusive and you forget it's there.
Works great, but...
...It is set for equal temperament. the violin family needs to be tuned in Pythagorean tuning. You'll never sound right with the too tight fifths this tuner tunes your open strings to. The workaround is to tune your A dead on, the E slightly sharp, the D is slightly low, and the G is lower still. This will get you in perfect Pythagorean tuning. This is according to the readout on the tuner, of course. Otherwise, it's extremely accurate, it picks up only your instrument remarkably well, it's small, and the battery lasts a loooong time.
Makes tuning a breeze.
This tuner is easy to read and can stay on your violin through your whole session if desired. It is well engineered and is an accurate tuner. The way it is designed it is incredibly easy to see and use. I bought one for each of my violin cases and my kids too. The old schoolers don't like it because they aren't used to it. Even my kids teacher snubs his nose at it and takes it off when he plays one of our instruments, but I don't care. I think it is fantastic. If I am practicing at home I feel quite comfortable leaving it on the instrument. It definitely makes more sense than a Snark on a violin. It is a great fit for a violin but I can see how it could be a snug fit for a viola.
