The back is of two pieces of maple cut on the quarter of narrow width flame extending downward from the center joint. The ribs and scroll are of similar maple. The top is of two pieces of spruce cut on the quarter of fine width grain. The varnish is red-orange over a golden ground.

Paul Knorr, born in 1882, studied violinmaking with Dölling. Working in Berlin and Breslau, he established himself in the Markneukirchen workshop of F&R Enders in 1918. Starting in 1921, Knorr became an independent maker. His work is of a very high level of craftsmanship and is widely respected for wood and material selection.
